New Tindler swindler cons stunning Brazilian models out of thousands of pounds

A man accused of scamming beautiful Brazilian modelsout of thousands of pounds has been arrested by local police, as he was dubbed the 'new Tinder Swindler'.

At a five-star hotel in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Monday (December 5), police scooped up 28-year-old Matheus Rodrigues Azin following a tip-off from a disgruntled alleged victim.

Reports claim that Azin faces accusations of bribery and fraud to the tune of BRL 22,000, or £3,470.

Following his arrest, he is understood to have dug himself even deeper, trying to bribe members of the Civil Police with watches and BRL 10,000, or £1,580.

Azin was first outed after he allegedly tried to make 23-year-old model Eduarda Fagundes move money into a third-party bank account.

With a massive 43,000-strong Instagram following, Ms Fagundes wasted no time reporting the alleged scammer to cops.

The two are understood to have been introduced via a mutual friend, just days after Ms Fagundes moved to Rio on November 25.

The two are thought to have spent the night together, after which Azin is alleged to have asked her for a transfer of around the equivalent of £400 using the Central Bank of Brazil’s payment tool, Pix.

But he then reportedly told her that his bank account had been blocked and asked her again for the equivalent of just over £600.

Things took a nasty turn when, while out for drinks, he was spotted allegedly entering her PIN into a card machine. Then, later that night he is understood to have made payments equal to around £1,500 from her account.

On December 1, Ms Fagundes was allegedly informed by hotel staff that Mr Azin had left the premises with an outstanding bill roughly equal to £160 which she needed to cover.

After their short, intense romance, days later she discovered another woman claiming to have been through the same thing with Azin.

Speaking with local news outlets, Ms Fagunda said: “He said he loved me and that we'd be together.

“In addition to being handsome and appearing to have a lot of money, he's extremely persuasive, seems to choose his victim, and messes with their mind.

"I get the impression he already knows who he's going to get something out of and approaches them. He's manipulative and professional.

"Today I feel ridiculous and pathetic for having believed it, but I'm relieved to know he's in jail and will answer for what he did. I don't want any other woman to go through the shame I went through."

Azin appears to have had a taste for people with high Instagram followings, also allegedly targeting Brenda Gondacki, a businesswoman and model with a 67,000-strong follower count.

He also seemingly liked to flaunt his lavish lifestyle, with images of his luxurious day-to-day and trips abroad dominating his social media accounts.

The case bears similarities to the Tinder Swindler case made popular by a Netflix documentary, which saw conman Simon Leviev (born Shimon Yehuda Hayut) enter into relationships with women, only to then use their cash to impress the next one with a fake wild lifestyle.

Police chief Felipe Santoro told local media: "He's a repeat offender who takes advantage of his good looks to attract women and steal money and bank details from them.

"This is how he maintains a life of luxury that includes high-end products and services."

Azin is understood to now be under investigation for fraud in five cases by Civil Police in São Paulo state.
