Lidl axeman sparks terror as he slices three people in bloody supermarket attack

    A man wielding an axe in a Lidl supermarket is understood to have attacked three before turning it on himself.

    The incident is understood to have taken place in Jeumont, France, on Monday night (December 12).

    Two of the victims are understood to be seriously injured following the attack with the third's injuries thought to be less severe.

    The third victim is understood to have been taken to Maubeuge hospital.

    Jeumont is located in France's Northern Department, close to the Belgian border in the country's northeast.

    Local reports claim that the attacker's injuries are also severe after he inflicted damage to himself with the axe.

    Emergency services are understood to be on the scene.

    Several dozen firefighters are understood to be on-site in response to the incident.

    A helicopter is understood to have been involved in the callout, with media outlet La Voix Du Nord reporting it to have arrived at 6:50pm, or 7:50pm local time.

    The incident is understood to have taken place at 155 Rue Victor Basch, 59460 Jeumont, France, just metres away from the Belgian border.

    The town of Jeaumont is joined with the Belgian town of Erquelinnes with no break between them, only an open border.
