Halifaxs most famous employee slams bank over disgraceful name badge row

Banking giant Halifax has reportedly triggered an exodus of customers shutting down their accounts, after they told people who disagreed with their pronoun badges to leave.

Even one of their most famous employees has waded in on the row – and branded his old company’s policy “disgraceful".

Howard Brown, a former customer services advisor at the bank known for singing and dancing in Halifax adverts as the face of the company, told them to “leave politics to politicians”.

The company faced a lot of criticism after taking to Twitter to show an employee’s nametag with “she/ hers” written on it.

But they refused to back down and told online moaners: "We strive for inclusion, equality and quite simply, in doing what's right.

"If you disagree with our values, you're welcome to close your account."

Unfortunately for the bank, the move seems to have backfired and people have jumped to rivals and withdrawn hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of assets, according toMailOnline.

Howard, who left the company in 2011, fumed: "I think it's disgraceful. That's not the Halifax I knew, that's not the customer service I knew.

"They've got this one wrong."

Plenty of others agreed and one person argued: “If a person is wearing a NAME badge, wouldn’t it be more polite to use that NAME…

“Isn’t that the point of a NAME badge, otherwise, why put the NAME on the NAME badge in the first place?”

But Halifax responded: "We want to create a safe and accepting environment that opens the conversation around gender identity.

"We care about our customers' and colleagues' individual preferences. For us, it’s a very simple solution to accidental misgendering.”
