Evil paedophile pals jailed after raping teenage girl in Liverpool alleyway

Two men have been handed prison sentences after one raped a teenage girl while the other was on look-out.

Kevin Lloyd, 37, ripped off his victim's clothes before raping her in an alley while she was intoxicated by alcohol, while Ryan Dunning kept watch for passers-by, Liverpool Crown Court heard.

Describing the incident, which took place on March 21, 2022 at around 1:40am, Judge Louise Brandon said it was "every woman’s worst nightmare", LiverpoolEcho reported.

She added that the perpetrators were "manipulative and predatory" and that Dunning "has an unhealthy interest in young women".

Both men involved in the case are convicted paedophiles and were out on licence at the time of the attack, staying in the same hostel.

The victim was clearly intoxicated at the time of the attack, Judge Brandon added, and if security guard John Burke and passer-by Abdullah Bawarth hadn't happened across the unfortunate incident the crime would have gone undetected.

Simon Christie, prosecuting, said that the victim had been to a rave and then several bars, and because of her intoxication had been struggling to walk.

Mr Bawarth said he saw the two men approach the victim, thinking they were planning to steal from her.

Lloyd then walked her into the alley where the crime was committed while Dunning appeared to guard the entrance.

By that point Burke and Bawarth had begun monitoring CCTV and saw what was happening before rushing to help the victim.

When challenged, Lloyd claimed the teen was his girlfriend and Dunning helped her out of the alley, but the girl then collapsed on nearby steps.

Burke had called police who arrived on the scene and arrested Lloyd, while Dunning walked away.

The victim said she remembered meeting her attackers but nothing else about the incident.

Her next memory was waking up in hospital where her mum informed her she had been sexually assaulted – which she didn't believe at first.

Dunning admitted that when a man appeared and challenged him on the attack he texted Lloyd to warn him, but denied acting as a lookout.

Meanwhile Lloyd, from Liverpool, was jailed for ten years with an extended eight-year licence after he pleaded guilty to rape.

Dunning received the same sentence.

Both men were also given a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

Judge Brandon also thanked Mr Burke and Mr Bawarth for their work to bring the criminals to justice and awarded them £100 each from public funds.

The effect on the victim and her family has been profound.

Mr Christie, prosecuting, said the teen used to be "the life and soul at any party" but now stays locked in her bedroom and doesn't like going out by herself.

Her relationship with her boyfriend ended because of the stress of the incident, and the court heard how she cut her hair off after the attack "as she didn’t want to be seen as attractive."

Detective Constables Rebecca Robinson and Loretta Dean, who led the investigation, said: "This was an utterly horrendous attack and we welcome that both Lloyd and Dunning are now behind bars and can no longer cause harm to women.

"While no sentence can repair the pain and suffering they have caused to their victim, I hope that they will both reflect on his despicable actions while serving this significant jail time.

"I hope that these sentences will reassure anyone who has suffered a sexual offence that, if you can find the courage to come forward and speak to us, we will deal with you sensitively and make sure that your report is properly and thoroughly investigated."
