Care worker lured toddler away from mum and let her be abused by paedo boyfriend
A care worker who helped her paedo partner abuse a toddler because she had a “desire to please him” has been banned from the profession.
Shannon Vicary, 26, was jailed for four and a half years at Cardiff Crown Court in June after pleading guilty to two counts of arranging a child sex offence.
The court heard how Vicary deliberately lured the toddler’s mother away from her child so her then-partner Michael Colmer, 45, could sexually abuse the toddler.
Colmer, also from Newport, was branded a “truly despicable human being” after he was found with images of him abusing the child on two separate occasions with the assistance of his partner.
Vicary worked for Cardiff Homecare Services Ltd between January 2020 and October 2020, according to Wales Online.
Now a Social Care Wales hearing on November 30 has determined that Vicary would be struck off the social care register with immediate effect.
Chairman Mr Byron Davies said: "We impose a removal order to take effect immediately.
“In mitigation we recognised she pleaded guilty at the first opportunity and she was not subject to any previous Social Care Wales detention. We recognised the offences took place outside the workplace.
“However, we found that the aggravating factors are more significant.”
He said the decision was based on a variety of factors including that Vicary had “failed to show insight regarding her conduct”, was serving a custodial sentence, and had damaged public confidence in the sector.

“We have decided it is necessary to impose a removal order to protect members of the public and to protect public confidence in view of the serious nature of the offences,” Mr Davies said.
“As a result of Ms Vicary’s actions she caused serious harm to the child’s mother, and it is as yet unclear what damage has been caused to the child.”
The mother, who has life-long anonymity along with her child, said the family’s lives had been “devastated” as a result of the couple’s actions.
Davies added: “She [Vicary] has shown a blatant disregard for the standards set out in the practice of social care” and described the case as “awful and dreadful”.
