Cambridge University students strip off for racy calendar

Athletes from Cambridge University have got their kit off to pose for their 2021 calendar.

The raunchy pictures are part of an annual tradition at the top University, which this year saw 78 students from 12 teams reveal all and pose in the city's world famous sites completely naked.

People from the netball, gymnastics and American football teams were among the students that used equipment from their sports to cover up all their private parts, sometimes dangerously with just inches to spare.

One photograph shows a tennis player covering his crotch with a set of four balls outside Cambridge's Earth Science Museum.

Another image has five flexible athletes doing handstands and the splits – with a single daisy covering one female student's breast.

Photographer Andrew Wilkinson said that it took fine margins to arrange each picture, Mail Online reports.

"There was a lot of finessing the poses – like 'that's got to go up slightly' or 'you've just moved half an inch'. We used their sports equipment to maintain some kind of modesty."

The students gathered to photograph at various spots, including the Grantchester Meadows and the university's archaeology museum, to take the racy snaps this summer.

They also took a "dry run" in clothes to practise their poses before they stripped off for the nude photo shoots, which lasted around 15 minutes.

And they of course made sure they had appropriate permission.

Andrew stressed they were careful not to cause any offence with their nudity, although they reportedly did get caught a few times by red-faced dog walkers.

He said: "The window of opportunity to take the photos was relatively short.

"We were a little anxious about being outside because we didn't want to cause any offence.

"We had a few runners and dog walkers come by – some didn't know where to look."

The annual Cambridge Blues Naked Calendar is set to go on sale later this month.

Cambridge University's Raising and Giving society says any proceeds will go to four charities: Jimmy's Cambridge, Teenage Cancer Trust, Student Minds and Rainforest Trust.
