Boss surprises employees with two first-class plane tickets and £7k to spend

For most, a bonus from work means a small, one-off wage boost at Christmas time or maybe a little bit of the bubbly during a staff gathering.

But for employees of Sara Blakely's US-based female fashion company, Spanx – which was recently valued at $1.2 billion (£727million) – they were given two first class tickets to anywhere they wanted in the world.

And if that wasn't enough, the excited gaggle of staff were told they were getting $10,000 (£7,276) to spend on the trip, too.

In emotional scenes posted to Instagram by Ms Blakely, employees can be seen crying and cheering upon hearing the incredible news.

In a social media post, which also announced a large investment partnership with investment firm Blackstone, she wrote: "Behind the scenes @spanx telling the employees (some live and some on zoom) about the sale and partnership with Blackstone.

"It was an emotional announcement filled with happy tears acknowledging how far we’ve come. And then the tears really started to flow when I surprised everybody with 2 first class @delta plane tickets to anywhere in the world and $10,000 (£7,276) cash to spend on the trip.

"I really want every employee to celebrate this moment in their own way and create a memory that will last them a lifetime! Cheers to 21 years of magic and many more to come."

The video has received more than 650,000 views, and around 65,000 likes, too.

Ending her spectacular announcement, the woman, who started the company with just $5k (£3.6k) in 2010, told her team: "This is a very big moment for each and every one of you, and I want to also toast the women that came before me and all of the women in the world who have not had this opportunity.

"So at a moment like this, I think of my mom and my grandmother and their lack of options and all the women that came before them."
