Aurora police arrest suspect in triple homicide shooting

Aurora police arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of triple homicide early Sunday morning after discovering three people shot to death in an Aurora home.

Christopher Martinez was arrested at 5:30 a.m. and will face three charges of first-degree murder, police said in a news release. He is suspected of killing three people at a home in the 1500 block of South Evanston Street, police said.

Concerned family members asked police to conduct a welfare check at the home at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, but officers did not find any suspicious at the time and did did not go inside the home, according to the news release.

Around 7 p.m., family members of the victims arrived at the home, went inside and found two women and a man who had been shot to death. The victims have not been publicly identified.

Police said Martinez was “initially contacted on the scene last night” and that he is “known to the victims.” Police Sgt. Faith Goodrich said Sunday that the suspect was an invited guest at the home.

“There’s no threat to the community and we don’t believe anyone else was involved,” she said. It was not immediately clear when the shooting occurred.

In a statement, Interim Police Chief Art Acevedo called the violence “inexplicable.”

“”Our hearts go out to the family of the victims,” he said.
